HOW TO MAKE HUMMUS

(EASY RECIPE)

Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog! It’s another Thursday, so I am back with my second vlog!
Today I will be showing you – step by step – how to make your very own delicious Hummus, cause let’s be real… Who doesn’t love Hummus? It’s delicious and packed with healthy nutrients. It’s also a great snack to have on the go if you’re watching your weight.
When I have friends over for a movie night, I like to serve Hummus alongside some breadsticks and cheese.
Hummus is a dip, spread, or a savory dish made from cooked, mashed chickpeas. It is high in protein and it is very easy to make! What’s so great about Hummus, apart from the fact that literally anyone can make it, is that it’s really cost efficient.
There are different variations of Hummus, however, today we will be making the traditional version. Whenever I make this spread, I always make in large quantity so that I have enough for myself to last me the entire week, and some extra to give to my boyfriend as he likes it a lot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Cups Dried Chickpeas
  • 1 TBSP Ground Cumin
  • 1 TBSP Paprika
  • 1 TBSP Salt
  • Pinch of Rosemary (Optional)
  • Dash of Pepper
  • 1/2 Cup Tahini
  • 2 TBSP Olive Oil
  • 3 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Lemon
  • Water

FUN FACT: “Hummus” comes from the Arabic word meaning “chickpeas”

Alright, let’s get to work!
If you want to make this from scratch and as fresh as possible, I would suggest using dried Chickpeas. If you are time-restricted, or bored and want to prepare something tasty in just a matter of minutes, you can also use canned.
Cooking dried Chickpeas is super easy, and I’m gonna show you how I do it in just a few simple steps.
Step 1
Fill a large bowl with water, and let the chickpeas soak overnight or for approximately 8 hours. After the beans rehydrate, they will triple in size, so make sure you put enough water to keep them covered even after they grow in size.
After soaking the beans, fill a pot with water, and cook the chickpeas for approx. 2 hours. You can add salt, garlic or even a bayleaf for added flavour.
TIP: If you want your Hummus to be very smooth, remove the beans’ skin after cooking. Adding Baking Soda while you cook them will make this step much easier.
If you are using canned chickpeas, ignore Step 1. Instead, rinse the canned beans with water and set aside in a container. 2 cups dried chickpeas are equivalent to about 6 cups cooked chickpeas.
Step 2
In a small bowl, mix together 1 TBSP ground cumin, 1 TBSP paprika, 1 TBSP salt, a pinch of rosemary, and a dash of pepper.
Dice 3 garlic cloves and put them in a separate small bowl. If you’re not a big fan of garlic, you can use 2 cloves instead of 3, however, I happen to LOVE garlic. Add 1 juiced lemon and 2 TBSP olive oil to the bowl with garlic and put aside.
Step 3
At this point, you’re only a few minutes away from being able to devour this tasty spread.
Put the chickpeas in a mixer – together with the garlic mixture and the spices, add 1/2 cup of Tahini and mix them for about 5 minutes in a food processor. Add water gradually until the spread is at your preferred consistency.
If you do not have a stand mixer, it’s totally fine, a handheld mixer will work just as fine!
TIP: For a smoother spread, first mix the garlic mix, spice mix and tahini together for a minute. Add the chickpeas and some water and mix for about 5 minutes. Keep adding water until the Hummus is at your preferred consistency. Adding water will help you get a smoother and puffier Hummus.
Step 4
There’s only one thing left to do now, and I bet you know exactly what it is! Sprinkle some paprika and olive oil on top and get ready to impress your friends with this delicious Hummus dip/spread.
